So, Cinders got invited to a BALL.
I know. A BALL! And then I found out it was Game of Thrones themed! *faints
Trey is a HUGE fan of the show. I like the bits I’ve seen, but never really invested in it. For us, it was a bit like when you were a teenager and you could guarantee your parents would walk into the room at the rude bits of a movie! Whenever I happened to be passing through the lounge and Trey was geeking out at all things GOT, it always struck me that clothes seemed pretty optional on the show, the bodies – pretty fabulous!
Thankfully I clocked that themed is an entirely different game to fancy dress but not before I’d put “Leather Harness” into google search. Note to the wise – NEVER do this! My internet history now makes for interesting reading!
So back to the GOT theme… First off – a dress. I instantly hit every busy mothers favourite ASOS and, given that it was a summer ball, felt like wearing white and opted for THIS little number. At £49.99, Cinders was pretty pleased!Given that I’m between sizes and don’t generally do long I thought having it fitted and adding a couple of splits at the front would help me feel more like me! I also wanted some cups added in the boob area to save my blushes and spare me from “doing a Holden”! I figured, outdoors on a British summers evening I didn’t want everyone to know a) if I was chilly or b) smugglingg a late night snack!
The Zip Yard were brilliant at helping me make any alterations I needed. Super fast and efficient service and lovely staff in my local branch meant the dress was soon ready for it’s big moment! Then, hair and make up….My gorgeous friend Katie Reay-Scott is the woman with magic hands. She’s the one who keeps me sane with my 4 am starts for Heart Breakfast and her 90 minute massages are to die for! She also happens to be a phenomenal hair and make-up artist and kindly offered to do my hair for me. We added some Hot Hair accessories in the shape of a gorgeous thick plait. I’m a big fan of the brand for adding that extra zouzz to your tresses – especially if, like me, your hair is now super fine after having kids or if you’re always super strapped for time! Their hair pieces add the ultimate glamour with the minimum fuss!
Katie then made up my eyes and the make-updidn’t move – ALL NIGHT – still looking the same at 2 am as it had at 4 pm.
Trey wore his wedding suit too – so I knew the night was going to be a bit special and I was super excited as we don’t honestly go out on many glam nights together these days. Lastly, the accessories.
Jewellery-wise it was all about my Stella & Dot Grace Chandelier Earings and cuff and the kids took great joy in helping me apply these gorgeous body tattoos from Bohemian Jewellery Tattoos which I’ve coveted forever on Instagram. They were super easy to apply and lasted for days! I knew it was going to be a good night just seeing the look on the kids faces. They were more excited than me and hearing Akira say “Wow Mummy – you look like a princess” I was instantly transported back to my childhood and watching mum and dad go off to parties! It was too sweet!
We had the most AMAZING night. I’m so lucky in that I have some wonderful friends at school and being able to let our hair down and have an adult night together, rather than the frazzled 5 minutes we usually grab at the school gates, made for a pretty special evening! Thankfully the glamour didn’t make us any less goofy – although I’d like to apologise now for the shape throwing at the silent disco. Who knew wearing headphones could be so much fun! *innocent face
