Dress For Success

As I mentioned inMy Best Me I’m on a mission to be the best me I can possibly be.  Part of that mission includes re-kindling my love with exercise and now, 2 weeks in, I already feel different. Whoop!

When Kaya was a baby, we lived in LA for the healthiest 3 years of my life!  Living in the sunshine makes you want to eat healthier and the 5 stone (I know!)  I’d gained with my pregnancy was soon gone. In the golden LA years I loved the outdoor life, went to the gym and felt amazing.

These days, training needs to fit in with my hectic day plus the challenging UK weather makes excuses all too easy.  Which means I have to train straight after the school run.  Which means running the playground gauntlet and doing said school run in lycra!

Yeah. I know. Time to go shopping!

I know you can train in anything.  But I also know that if I head to the gym feeling dowdy, I don’t feel good about myself or give 100%.  If I feel good, I feel inspired. Simple. So I no longer see nice fitness gear as a luxury as, chances are, I’ll be spending most of the day in it!

I read an interesting post about mums and their attitudes to training and some admitted to despising mums at the school gate clad in lycra (sorry!) whilst others admitted to putting on lycra to do the school run so everyone thinks you’re training and it beats sashaying up in your PJ’s!  Can’t argue with that!

Anyway, these are the bits from various AW/14 collections I’m currently LOVING!

SWEATYJust going into a Sweaty Betty  store is an experience in itself.  Gorgeously styled, you feel like you’re in the coolest locker room ever!  They have some to-die-for leggings at the moment, in great designs and colours.  Even their bags are inspirational.

Leggings wise I love the fresh look of the  Chandrasana Yoga Leggings and practicality of the Zero Gravity Tights which actually have mesh panels behind the knees, to keep you extra cool!

LEGGINGS1My gym “look” used to be shorts over leggings, since I didn’t love what was going on in my trunk!  But now – it’s leggings all the way.  The lovely Melissa in the Oxford store was telling me how people in Head Office rock the leggings with heels for a “going out” look.  Great idea!  I also love the colours and design of the Split Run Capris and they’re some of the most flattering capris I’ve ever worn.  Their colour scheme also makes me smile on the dreary winter days.

TOPSI also got these great tops.  Loving the peach/orange colour of the Double Time Run Tank which can also be used as separates. I’m all about a bit of colour whilst training as it seems to spur me on!  The floral Dedicate Vest is great thrown over any vest top and disguises a tummy.  What’s not to love about that?  The Namaska Yoga Vest  is a great basic and has a bit of support in the boob area. *pretends to need it

In a weird clashing of worlds I recently met an online mate for coffee, which is a whole other story in itself as we barely stopped for air for 2 hours!  She’s a lovely human being.  She’s also big on fitness and, having caught the bug earlier this year, she’s a total inspiration and has transformed herself in 2014.  And I LOVE these gorgeous leggings from her online store, Southwood Stores.

CANWILLLooking at the design, you’d think they were the most un-forgiving leggings ever but on the contrary, they’re SUPER flattering!   Something about the distribution of patches on the bum makes it look lifted and fab!  Yay!  I also love the sentiment I CAN, I WILL and actually say it to myself sometimes in classes to get me through. They feel great on the skin and don’t let me overheat.  Shame they don’t make them for my face! #beetroot

Footwear is key.  I realised that I was rocking some trainers I got when Akira was born.  He’s 5 next week!  Yeah.  Time for a change. Not only that, I’d washed them lots so they were actually a bit too snug.  Not exactly a personal best!

REEBOKLOVING these from Reebok.  I’m dipping my toe (literally) into the Crossfit arena and you can’t mention Crossfit in any gym without whispers of “Reebok Nano” reverberating around the place.  Loving the newest offering in the shape of these Nano 4.0 and for general gym activity like refilling my water bottle, chatting, ordering a cappuccino training hard (!) the ZLUX TR are perfect!

I’m SO determined to be the best I can possibly be and the right kit can help my journey so much so I’m feeling inspired.

A secret double-life in lycra. Moi? Who knew?!  *heads to a phone box

New trainers are what I need, I’m refusing to buy new clothes for the gym until I shift at least a stone or two, so I am just sporting the frumpy mummy look in the playgrund at the moment! #theshame

There’s NO shame in that lady! Good luck on your journey! Deciding to embark on it is half the battle xx

Loving your choices. New trainers are on my Xmas list but more for general running around that exercising (which I haven’t officially done in an embarrassingly long time!)

Gotta love some new trainers! What a great idea for a Christmas present! xx

I totally agree – I have a lot of neon in the gym! Leopard print looks like an excellent addition. And if I don’t go after nursery drop off, I won’t go. It encourages me to shower when I get home too… #notstinky x

See, I always shower as per usual in the morning, and then *whispers “I may stay in said lycra all day and not shower again”! *hides

Very interesting clothing but one i am still quite scared to wear I am afraid. Plus I don’t think they have large sizes like I need.

THE comfiest clothes EVER! You should totally do it! Face the fear! 😉 x

I recently started doing the school run in lycra as I drop them off and then go for a run. Amazingly starting the day off like that really makes the rest of the day feel so much better.
It took me a while to get used to the lycra clad school run though – but then I realised that it means not having to worry about having somethign ironed ready to wear and an excuse not to wear make up – win win!
Loving the look of your choices – off to find out more!

TOTALLY agree! It’s way easier to get dressed in the morning! xx

I am so obsessed with gym kit! If I’m wearing something I feel good in I know I train harder (weirdo). My favourites are Claire Maley leggings:
