It’s Beginning To Feel…

IMG_8651

*whispers “a BIT like Christmas“?!

Yup – You know it’s getting close to THAT time of year when the coffee shops start busting out their colourful paper cups so you can wander along busy streets, the heat of the elixir warming your freezing hands!  This week I also had my first (second and possibly third?) mulled wine of the season at our village Fireworks Party…and the requisite awkward school photos arrived, just in time for me to package them up and send them off to unsuspecting relatives! #sorrynotsorry

And then of course, there’s THAT John Lewis advert.  And you know the countdown is really on.

Given that I loved last years Lilly Allen / “Bear and Hare” offering, I knew this years would be a tough one to get right.  Very glad I’m not on the thinktank team for the JL christmas ads!  No pressure there then?!

But they’ve done it!  I felt warm and cosy watching the penguin antics and, having started with uncertainty in my heart I ended my premier viewing with, apparently, something in my eye!  I know.  I’m THAT woman!  If you see my dignity anywhere, please be sure to let it know I miss it!

Ads aside, one of my favourite JL services is how I can order online and said item is delivered to my local Waitrose the next day!  They’ve helped me out numerous times when I’ve had an event to go to and obviously “nothing to wear” (despite a wardrobe that’s begging for mercy!) but no time for shopping.  So I order online and voila –  Cinders is off to the ball! Love that.

I also recently ordered a time and sanity-saving tumble dryerfrom them, having heard great things from my sister about their delivery, just at the time my old dryer decided to hand in it’s notice.  I’m big on line drying as I love the way it negates the need to iron bedding but, as the A/W ’14 rains set in, I needed to get my act together, and pronto.  So when JL asked if I wanted to check out their services, I said yes quicker than a hare could wake a hibernating bear!

LAUNDRYThe dryer arrived, accompanied by two of the happiest delivery men I’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Smiles too? I know!

My local store has a glass lift which my kids LOVE riding in – made all the more exciting at this time of year by the fact that the Christmas shop is in the basement of the store, so you can see it as you’re riding the lift. Not that we’d ever be THOSE people who just ride up and down in the lift for fun you understand. Nopey nope nope.  Not us!

Which reminds me, we haven’t done that yet this year. That’s the weekend sorted then!  Aside from the fact that I might need to get my act together, given that I’m talking the talk but haven’t actually made any lists or bought any presents yet!  But there’s still loads of time, right?  Right??

K x

Gosh weeping at that ad, John Lewis get me every single time… I’m not ready for Christmas either but always feel the same every year! One of my parents’ restaurants is opening this year for Christmas Day so I’m now not hosting Christmas at mine (huge shame)! I’m definitely starting to feel festive though, my birthday is on Sunday then it’s time to start preparing!

I am the least prepared I’ve ever been this year. I’m planning on simply throwing money at the problem. Just need to find the money…

I well up every time I see it. Made my son, who’s just gone to uni, watch it and he was “yeah, it’s ok I suppose”!! I think that was the moment when I realised my baby boy had grown up – cue more sobs!! xx

Ruddy LOVE John Lewis – I practically grew up in the Oxford Street store and have had a love affair with the brand ever since childhood. Their service really is second to none. Enjoy your dryer! (P.S. I think I have something in my eye too… clearly just a coincidence… *sniffs* *ignores Christmas* *buries head in sand*)

See, in my head the C word is just gonna get sorted! By a magical fairy who waves her wand and suddenly it’s all done and I live in a pristine / ready home! x

  • Reply Cass@frugalfamily November 7, 2014 at 6:47 pm

I may have had a slight tear in my eye at the end of the advert too although last years was amazing wasn’t it?

You know there’s only 48 more sleeps to go don’t you 😉

    • Reply Katy November 8, 2014 at 2:35 pm

      Too exciting! xx

  • Reply Trish November 7, 2014 at 5:28 pm

I saw the advert yesterday and it had the desired effect – gulp! I think it was the memory of having a happy little boy at home when my own has now flown the nest that really got the tears flowing.
I’m always happy to hear good things about John Lewis as I worked for them for 11 years after university. They were very good employers…I miss my staff discount too.

Oh my goodness – hadn’t even THOUGHT about how I’d feel once the kids are grown up! *sobs again x
