Beach Ready – Kids

I’m really hot (no pun intended) on protecting my kids from the sun.  Since sun damage that’s done when you’re a kid affects you for the rest of your life, I want them to be able to enjoy the sun, but safely. I’m constantly on the look out for cool but protective beachwear and since I have no desire to dress Kaya in bright pink or Akira in plain blue – the selection is pretty limited.

Step forward the amazing Sunuva, a company I discovered last year and instantly fell in love!

Sun-Uva (see what they did there!) does what it says on the packet and then some!  The coolest beachwear for kids – EVER!   Since becoming a fan I’ve discovered lots of the celebs are also fans, including Kate Moss, Lady Beckham and Gwynnie and it’s easy to see why.

The selection is gorgeous and has something to suit all colourings.  Whenever we’re away I always get mums enquiring where I got the gear, which shows how unique the ranges are.

And they ARE unique, since even the patterns are designed from scratch by owners Sabrina and Emily who, disillusioned with the swimwear available for kids and with a shared love of exotic travel, decided to transform kids beachwear.  The ranges are boho inspired and and stocked in Harvey Nicholl’s, Selfridges and Barney’s New York.

KAYA-SUNUVAFor Kaya I went for the Coral Garland range with its gorgeous flower garland, complete with matching kaftan with real shell detailing, which caused her more excitement than you’ll ever know!

For Akira, I LOVE the Indian Headress range with vibrant orange shorts featuring headress and dream catchers and orange and taupe rash vest – apparently perfect for making the ultimate sand angel!

ANGELMy kids wear rash vests for three reasons:

  1. They keep the kids protected with a UPF of 50+
  2. They help prevent prickly heat as the material is fully breathable
  3. They mean less “lotioning” for me and more fun time for them!

I love Sunuva’s accessories too.  Kaya been rocking the coolest cowboy hat this year and Akira has a great taupe cap with detachable back for super sunny days.

Sunuva also stock the supremely cool ZOOBUG sunglasses for kids.

When we moved to LA in 2006, a 1 year old Kaya spent the first month squinting as she wasn’t used to life being so bright!  In the exact same year, eye surgeon Dr Julie Diem Le was searching for eyewear for her 1 year old niece.  Finding nothing appropriate she left her career to start Zoobug and fill the gap in the market by producing the best kids sunglasses and raising awareness of children’s eye health. The glasses provide 100% protection for eyes from 0-12 and, not surprisingly, they’ve even been spotted on mini royals!

ZOOBUGI love that the glasses come in a choice styles and sizes and they’re handmade – the Aviator style I chose for Kaya made in hypoallergenic stainless steel and Akira’s Wayfarers in Italian acetate. All the lenses are British Standard approved and polarised and the glasses are designed specifically for kids faces – hence my kids find them super comfy to wear.  They also fit and stay on better than any glasses I’ve ever known.  Supremely stylish AND 100% protection AND an 18 month guarantee?  What’s not to love?!

Sunuva is like a one-stop-summer-shop!  They make it so quick and easy – leaving more time for you to concentrate on what YOU’RE gonna pack and, if you’re anything like me, not wear!

Oh – and they have AMAZING sales too!  But shhhhh…. let’s keep that bit our little secret!

I’m a huge fan of rash vests to avoid having to do all the suncream – the kids hate it. But I’d never heard of Sunuva – they are really nice – and not a Skylander in sight!

When my son was younger we really struggled getting decent sunglasses. Retailers thought we were odd just asking. So pleased to see these zoobugs.
Love the clothes too, how stylish!

I know! They’re beautiful aren’t they! And I’m with you on the glasses – especially since I wore cheap glasses last week and burnt my eyes on holiday 🙁 x
