Ever wondered what ecstatic looks like?
Ever wondered what shocked looks like?
Ever wondered what “overcome with emotion” looks like?
This my friend… THIS!
Yup – this years Brilliance in Blogging “BiB” Award for Fresh Voice at Britmums Live came to ME! *runs around naked! Thanks so much for voting me to the shortlist in the first place. I’m still in complete shock the judges voted for me – and yes, still as excited as I look in this pic!
The others on the list were all amazing bloggers – shout out to all of them for their brilliance and their wonderful blogs! I feel like we all achieved the impossible just by making it to the shortlist. So hugs to you … Adventures of Adam, Beautiful Misbehaviour, Hurrah for Gin, Sisterhood (and all that) and The Intrepid Misadventurer.
Since I was hosting the awards, I read the fact that our category had been put to the end of the ceremony as a bad sign. I even sat down in the audience while the category was announced – I was so sure someone else would win. I guess watching Graham Norton as Bafta Host, where he was nominated for two awards and walked away with nothing, didn’t help!
And then it happened. “And the winner is….. KATY HILL”!
Shocked? … Check
Overwhelmed? … Check
Unable to control the blubbing? … Call me Gwynnie and take me home baby!
And home is where my award already has pride of place by my favourite, quirky old window! I walk past it the whole time and it makes me smile!
I had the best weekend with some amazing and powerful bloggers and inspirational speakers in the shape of Emma Freud and Benjamin Brooks-Dutton. I feel humbled, inspired and proud in equal measure.
And now, back to normal life. And during this mornings Multi-Circuit class at the gym, something HIT me!
Lovely though the winning is, it’s truly not all about that. As I was saying in my last post, it’s all about running your own race. During the class, it’s impossible not to look around and compare what everyone else is lifting with what you are (and then I usually raise my game and hurt myself!).
In life, it’s so easy to judge ourselves by those around us,but we have to learn not to. The minute you get TOO caught up with what everyone else is doing, you don’t do YOUR best!
Do those things necessary to bring forth your personal best and don’t lose sleep worrying about the competition. John Wooden
And that’s the thing with Britmums Live.
Some went home a winner because they won an award.
Some went home a winner because they made amazing new friendships.
Some went home a winner because they faced their fear and got themselves through the door in the first place (yup – those events can be totally overwhelming!)
It’s all about your OWN victory and running your own race.
Thanks Britmums Live for a phenomenal few days! It was so great to catch up with blogging friends, share stories and learn new tricks! And thanks to the gorgeous people I met for making the time (and my win) so special. Here are just a few of them …
